2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Booster on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Begin the service and repair of the vacuum brake booster by taking the brake lines off the master cylinder, removing the mounting nuts and taking out the master cylinder. After that, take off the vacuum hose at the booster check valve and remove the knee bolster to access the brake pedal. Take out the clip and washer from the booster push rod link to the brake pedal and move the rod off the pedal. With the nuts taken out, lift the booster out from inside the engine compartment. When setting up, make sure you don't hold the booster by its input rod to stop any damage. Place the booster on the engine compartment dash panel, put in the mounting nuts and tighten them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Attach the booster push rod to the brake pedal, use the washer and clip to hold it and then reinstall the knee bolster. Secure the initial end of the vacuum lubrication hose back to the booster check valve, set the master cylinder in place on the booster and tighten all nuts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs. of torque). After all that, fasten the brake lines to the master cylinder, tightening them to 19 - 200 Nm (170 - 200 inch lbs.) and bleed out the base brake system.
