2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Service and Install a Fuel Rail Assembly on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Releasing the pressure from the fuel system should happen before working on the fuel rail assembly. The left and right fuel rails are changed as a unit and you should not part the rails below the flexible pipe. Be careful not to twist or damage the fuel rail assembly's connecting hose. Take the negative battery cable off first, proceed with the air cleaner removal and perform the step for fuel pressure release. After that, separate the throttle body from the intake manifold. If the vehicle comes with air conditioning, you'll need to pull out the A-shaped A/C compressor-to-intake manifold bracket. To do so, remove all three supporting bolts. To remove the electrical connector, press the red slider to the side, press the tab and then pull the connector from the injector. Each factory fuel injection wiring harness is marked with identification tags for each injector position. Don't remove the intake manifold air temperature sensor from the engine and simply disconnect the connector. After removing the last few fuel rail mounting bolts, rock the fuel rails from side to side until the fuel injectors come clear of the intake manifold. Remove the fuel rail with the injectors still attached and get rid of the clips securing the injectors to the rail. Add a little engine oil to all the O-rings before fitting the fuel injectors and their clips to the fuel rail to help installation. Put the fuel rail/fuel injector assembly in place over the intake manifold openings and make certain the injectors fit snugly without harming the O-rings. Set the fuel injectors into place by pushing the fuel rails down and after that, tighten the mounting bolts. Reseat the air temperature sensor wiring, as well as those of the fuel injectors and make sure they are all properly locked in place. Should you be using an A/C support bracket, restart the process by reinstalling it followed by installing the throttle body to the intake manifold. For the fuel rail, reattach the fuel tube from its side, reinstall the air cleaner and link the battery cable back. After that, start the engine and inspect for leaks.
