Dodge Ram 1500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Fuel Rail on a 3.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
Before you remove the fuel rail on a 3.7L engine, release the pressure from the fuel system, because it stays under pressure even when the engine is switched off. Both left and right fuel rails are changed out as one unit and you must not take them apart at the connection tubes which don't require clamps. The first step is to remove the fuel tank filler tube cap and afterwards remove the negative Battery Cable. After that, disconnect the Air Duct and air box at the Throttle Body, followed by the air resonator mounting bracket which you hold in place only by two bolts. Use the special tool to separate the fuel line latch clip and fuel line from the fuel rail. Pull out the vacuum lines at the throttle body and unplug all electrical connectors from every one of the six Fuel Injectors, pressing down on their tabs while pushing their red sliders away. For easy identification, the factory fuel injection wiring harness is tagged by injector position. Take out all electrical connectors from the throttle body sensors and sweep aside the six Ignition Coils before cleaning them. Following this, take out the screws that hold the fuel rail. Rock and pull the left-sided fuel rail softly so that the injectors clear the machined openings, then do the same on the right side to release all of the injectors. Remove the fuel rail with attached injectors from the engine as your last step. If it's necessary to replace the fuel injectors, use the right procedure to remove them.
  • Q: How to Install a Fuel Rail on a 3.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
Prior to installing the fuel rail, make sure the Fuel Injectors are all set. Extra fluid in the Intake Manifold can hurt fuel injectors. Clean every bore in the intake and put a bit of engine oil on all O-rings to ease the process. Set the fuel rail and fuel injector assembly above the machined locations in the cylinder head and guide each injector while watching that no damage is done to the O-rings. Depress the right side of the fuel rail, making sure the injectors are set on the cylinder head shoulder before doing it for the left side. Secure the fuel rail to the engine with the four bolts, following the specification instructions. Then, mount the six Ignition Coils, join the connectors to the Throttle Body and attach all fuel injectors' connectors using the red slider. Add the needed vacuum lines to the throttle body, secure the air resonator bracket with two screws in front of the throttle body and link the fuel line latch clip and fuel line to the fuel rail. Put the air box on the throttle body and then attach the Air Duct to the air box. Lastly, hook the Battery Cable to the battery, fire up the engine and look for any leaks.
