2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail Assembly on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before beginning fuel rail assembly service, first release the pressure from the fuel system. Take out the negative battery cable and take out the air cleaner to start. Do the fuel pressure release, then take out the throttle body from the intake manifold. Should the vehicle include air conditioning, first remove the three bolts from the A-shaped A/C compressor-to-intake manifold support bracket. Press and hold the slider away from the fuel injector to disconnect the blue connector by pressing down on the tab. It is possible to tell apart the factory wiring for the fuel injection by tagging it for injector identification. To disconnect the intake manifold air temperature sensor, take off its electrical connector but leave the sensor in place; and disconnect the fuel tube that's connected to the side of the fuel rail. After loosening the last mounting bolts, carefully rock and draw the fuel rails upwards so the fuel injectors pass over the intake manifold. Pull the fuel rail with its injectors attached and unclip the injectors from the rail. Before the install, apply a touch of engine oil to all the fuel injector O-rings and place the injectors and clips onto the fuel rail. Make certain the fuel rail/fuel injector assembly is lined up with the intake manifold as you carefully align each injector. Lower both fuel rails until the injectors are flush, then screw in the fuel rail mounting bolts. Secure a connection on the intake manifold air temperature sensor with the electrical connector, as well as on every fuel injector. If you have a support bracket for your A/C, reinstall it, set up the throttle body after that and then hook up the fuel tube on the side of the fuel rail. After that, put the air cleaner back in place, connect the battery cable, start the engine and look for any leaks.
