2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Front Shock Absorber on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Start by supporting and lifting up your vehicle before servicing the front shock absorber. Lift out both the shock upper nut and the retainer and grommet. After that, remove the lower mounting bolt from the suspension arm and take off the shock. When installing the shock, open it all the way and fit the retainer and the grommet on top, making sure there isn't wear. Send the body mounting bracket shock through the upper arm bracket for the suspension, then insert the top grommet, install the retainer and tighten the nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Position the shock's bottom end on the lower arm, add the mounting bolt and tighten it to 142 Nm or 105 ft. lbs. Then, take out the support and slowly lower the vehicle.
