2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What precautions should be taken before diagnosing or servicing an Air Bag system on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: Because an air bag system is complicated and electronic, making sure to cut the negative cable and wait two minutes for the capacitor to discharge is needed before working on it. When taking out an air bag module that has been in an accident, you should wear protective clothing and glasses to keep from coming into contact with irritants. The passenger side air bag module should be removed from your car by starting with the negative cable and lowering the glove box. Lift the air bag lower flange and move the air bag rear bracket out of the hole by unscrewing the two large ones and three small screws. Take out the green and yellow connectors from each other. Take out the first screw between the passenger side air bag module front bracket and the instrument panel support armature. Slowly use a trim stick or similar tool to lift the top of the passenger side air bag door from the instrument panel to remove the five snap features. Vacuum through the air bag module and air bag door together. To put the air bag parts in, fix the passenger side air bag module and air bag door inside the instrument panel and attach and tighten the four big screws to 8.4 Nm and the three little screws to 1.9 Nm. Press the snap features in the air bag door until they snap into the receptacles on the instrument panel base trim. Connect the passenger side air bag module wire harness to the instrument panel wire harness and verify it is properly engaged in the connector. After that, put the glove box back up into the instrument panel. Don't hook up the negative battery cable right now.
