Any time an air bag is put to use after deployment, the vehicle should have all air bag units, both seat belt tensioners, the driver air bag trim cover, the horn switch, the Clock Spring and the steering column assembly replaced because they are not safe to use again and might not appear damaged with a simple examination. It is important to carefully inspect and change lots of car parts remedied by visible damage alone. Safety glasses, rubber gloves and a long-sleeved shirt should be worn as protection against a compound created, sometimes containing sodium hydroxide, it can affect the skin, eyes, nose or throat. If your skin becomes irritated, rinse the area with water; if your nose or throat start to itch, go outside for air and then check with a health professional if this continues. Remove and bag both air bags and both seat belt tensioners, placing them in the junk pile next to your car. Vacuum the vehicle from the outside in and be careful to pick up any residue from the heater and air conditioner vents. Turn on both the heater and air conditioner fans on low to collect any powder coming from the outlets and you might also have to vacuum the inside a second time to get it all.
