2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the lifter and lash adjuster on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: Cover, head, rocker assembly and push rods should be removed, putting special attention on the push rods for correct attachment back. After that, pull off the intake manifold, yoke retainer and aligning yokes. Apply Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer Tool C-4129-A through the hole in the cylinder head to place it securely in the tappet head, then pull the tappet out by turning it while keeping them identified so that their places are not mixed up when all are removed. If anything like scoring, scuffing or sticking is visible in a cylinder block's bore or tappet, enlarge the bore and replace the tappet with an oversize part. Be sure that the plunger and tappet bodies are not the same and the plunger and valve go with the original body, so don't mix components between tappets. If you need to, pull apart and put together the tappets. Remember to grease the tappets and place them with the push rods in their original places, so the oil feed hole in the tappet points toward the top. Secure the aligning yokes so the arrow aims at the camshaft and afterward fix the yoke retainer, giving bolts a torque of 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Replace the intake manifold, push rods, rocker arms and cylinder head covers into position. After starting the engine, make sure the temperature rises until normal and keep the engine speed at medium as high a speed might damage the valves, since hydraulic tappets need some time to fill up with oil.
