The lifter/lash adjuster can be serviced or repaired after removing the air cleaner assembly, air inlet hose and the cylinder head cover. After that, remove the rocker assembly and the push rods and make sure to mark which push rods belong to each chamber. After taking off the manifold, undo the yoke retainer and put the aligning yokes aside. Place the Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer Tool C-4129-a through the opening in the cylinder head until it enters the tappet head and is seated. By turning the tappet, pull it out and note each one if they will all come out. Should a tappet bore or cylinder bores appear scored, scuffed or show sticking, ream to an oversize and fit a new oversize tappet. Apply a good solvent to the tappet, rinse it in hot water and then dry it with either a clean rag or compressed air. When putting it in place, coat the tappets with Mopars Engine Oil Supplement or an equivalent, after which the tappets and push rods should be put back in their original positions so the oil feed hole on the tappet is facing upward. Replace the aligning yokes by pointing the Arrow part at the camshaft and then insert the yoke retainer, tightening its bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) torque. After that, set the intake manifold, rocker arms, cylinder head cover, air cleaner assembly and air inlet hose into place. Begin the engine and drive it slowly until all hydraulic tappets start running quietly, so that the valves are not harmed when the engine reaches top idle.
