2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Drive Belt on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: If the route markings found in the schematics don't match those on the Belt Routing Label, use the label instead. A spring-loaded belt tensioner should not be checked with a gauge on vehicles with automatic tensioners, as these can be used for several types of belt systems, both with and without extras like power steering or air conditioning. Use a socket/wrench on the bolt of the automatic tensioner and rotate the assembly clockwise to release stress on the belt. Get rid of the belt from the idler pulley to start with and make sure to remove the belt from the vehicle afterward. During installation, make sure the accessory drive belt is in the proper position so that the water pump doesn't rotate the wrong way and cause engine overheating. Over all pulleys except the idler pulley, place the drive belt so that it is located between the generator and A/C compressor. As before, use a socket/wrench on the pulley mounting bolt of the automatic tensioner and turn it clockwise to put the belt over the idler pulley while returning the tensioner to its original place. When done, take out the wrench and confirm the belt sits right on all pulley wheels, checking the index lines when you have finished.
