2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Radiator on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Before removing the radiator, separate the negative battery cables, empty the cooling system and check that the drain plugs on the block and the radiator drains are not moved when the system is hot with pressure, to prevent burns from coolant. Never forget to use special tools for servicing constant tension hose clamps, for example, special clamp tool number 6094 or Snap-On clamp tool number HPC-20 for larger clamps. Should constant tension clamps be replaced, go for original parts featuring the matching printed numbers or letters. After that, undo the clamps and remove the hoses from the radiator, separate the hose from the radiator filler neck nipple and lift the coolant reserve/overflow tank upward from the fan shroud. Disconnect the plugs at the windshield washer reservoir and remove the tank, next, unscrew the four windshield washer fan shroud mounting bolts, then place the shroud behind the fan behind the engine. Lift off the plastic hangers from the rubber shields, place the rubber shields to the side and undo the two mounting bolts found at the top of the radiator. Remove the radiator carefully from the car, making sure not to damage the cooling parts in it or on the air conditioning condenser. Place the fan shroud over the fan blades near the engine, put rubber insulators on the lower alignment dowels and guide the radiator down into position by fitting the dowels into the lower radiator mount. Tighten the two upper radiator mounting bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.) while you are at the car. Put the rubber shields on the edges of the radiator and attach the plastic clips, next join the two radiator hoses, being sure to watch for the earlier guidance and connect them with the hose clamps. Hold the windshield washer reservoir tank in place, fit the fan shroud to the sides of the radiator and put in the fan shroud mounting bolts, tightening them until they reach 6 Nm (50 in. lbs.) torque. Secure the coolant reserve/overflow tank hose from the radiator to the filler neck nipple and the tank to the fan shroud on the motor. After that, add in the negative battery cables, position the heater to maximum heat, add coolant to the cooling system, start the engine, drive it till it reaches the right temperature and observe the placing of the coolant.
