2000 Dodge Stratus Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: Behind the cylinder head is where you'll find the camshaft position sensor. First, pull the negative battery cable, then connect with the air tube on the throttle body and air filter housing and remove, lastly, remove the air cleaner inlet tube. After that, take off the electrical connectors from the engine coolant sensor and camshaft position sensor, unplug the brake booster hose and connector from the holders at the end of the cylinder head cover and remove the sensor mounting screws to pull out the camshaft sensor. Take off the screw that joins the target magnet to the back end of the camshaft. While installing, put the target magnet at the end of the camshaft and ensure that both locating dowels enter the machined holes, then tighten the screw to 3.4 Nm (30 in. lbs.). Don't tighten it too hard since this could crack the magnet which must be replaced if that happens. After that, insert the camshaft position sensor and secure it with 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.) of torque. Place the brake booster hose and electrical harness into the holders on the end of the valve cover, plug the connectors from the coolant temperature sensor and camshaft position sensor into their terminals, install the air cleaner inlet tube and filtered air tube and at the end, reattach the negative battery cable.
