2000 Dodge Stratus Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before working on the main bearing seal for the crankshaft, remove the transaxle and flex plate. Slide the edge of a 3/16 flat bladed screwdriver into the gap between the dust cap and the metal case to pull out the crankshaft rear seal. The blade of the screwdriver should not come in contact with the seal, but you can still touch the chamfer. While cleaning, use some 400 grit sandpaper to remove any burrs or scratches from the crankshaft edge so the seal isn't damaged during installation. You should not lubricate the seal when installing it. Put Special Tool 6926-1 Seal Guide on the crankshaft and slide the seal onto it with the lip facing the crankcase. Make sure you don't push the seal too far into the block, since this could cause oil to escape. Using the Special Wool 6926-2 and C-4171, press the seal into the block until the bottom of the tool touches it. With the seal set properly, attach the flex plate to the other end, apply Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive to the threads of each bolt and tighten them to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Attach the transaxle afterward.
