2001 Dodge Stratus Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2001 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before doing maintenance on the crankshaft main bearing seal, first remove the transaxle and then take out the drive plate. Slip the shaft of a 3/16" wide flat bladed screwdriver into the area between the crankshaft seal's metal case and the dust lip, not allowing the screwdriver to get in contact with the seal itself, only with the chamfer. If the crankshaft has any uneven marks or scratches, gently sand it with 400 grit sandpaper to stop the seal from splitting during setup. Thereafter, put Special Tool 6926-1 Guide on the crankshaft and position it so that its base magnetically mounts it as a pilot tool. Put the seal over the pilot tool, so the seal's lip is next to the crankshaft and hold the pilot tool firmly during installation. Finish up by using Special Tool 6926-2 Installer and C-4171 Handle to push the seal into the retainer housing so it matches the housing surface, install the drive plate and transaxle again.
