2000 Dodge Stratus Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Starter Motor in an Automatic Transmission on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before servicing the starter motor on a car with an automatic transmission, disconnect the minus battery cable from the remote negative terminal and pull out the air cleaner resonator. After that, remove all three screws holding the TCM in place and lift the TCM to reach the starter's top mounting bolt without touching the TCM wiring. Lift the vehicle by removing the top bolt holding the starter to the transmission housing. Release both ends of the starter by taking off the battery positive cable nut and unlocking the red locking tab on the solenoid connector. Remove the bottom bolt that binds the starter to the transmission housing and get the starter out of the car. To install, put the starter face into the transmission housing as the vehicle is raised and then lower the car to finish. Place the top starter bolt, but don't tighten it, elevate the vehicle and put in the bottom bolt, fastening it to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) torque. Wipe away any dirt or corrosion on the wire terminals before you connect the positive battery cable to the solenoid and the push-on connector. Declutter the suspension body and secure the top starter bolt by turning it with an impact wrench to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Next, attach the car's throttle body, mount it with screws, replace the air cleaner resonator, then match the battery remote cable to its remote point.
