Q: How to Service a Sway Bar Link in the Rear on 2000 Dodge Viper?
A: First, raise the car and take the rear wheel and tire off the side where you will be removing the sway bar link. Before unscrewing the nut, twist the nut at the rear of the sway bar link so that the end of the stud is not left inside the link, protecting it. Put the link nut all the way to the end of the star nut, insert a center punch into the hole on the end of the stud and hit the center punch to separate the stud from the control arm. Then, disconnect the nut that holds the sway bar link to the sway bar, being careful not to damage the seal or ball joint by using a pickle fork. Pull apart the stud on the link and sway bar using Puller, Special Tool MB991113 and remove the link from your vehicle. To place the sway bar link, put it into the lower control arm and secure it with the nut, tightening to a torque of 22 Nm (200 inch lbs.). Fit the sway bar link onto the sway bar and screw the nut tightly to the same calibration. Fit back the tire and wheel, tightening the nuts on the mounting stud half-way, then turn them the rest of the way to complete the 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) recommendation. Lower the vehicle as your last step.
