Dodge Viper Sway Bar Link Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Service a Sway Bar Link on Dodge Viper?
    A:
The first step to working on the front sway bar link is to lift the vehicle, support it and take off the wheel and tire. After that, remove the nut securing the sway bar link to where the sway bar sticks out. You should only use Remover, Special Tool MB991113 for this job, as using anything else could damage the seal and ball joint found on the link. Proceed by taking the same special tool to disconnect the sway bar from the link after that. Do not remove the nut attaching the sway bar link to the lower control arm. Instead, make it loose enough that when you take it apart, the nut is right at the tip of the stud so it is not damaged. Put a center punch in the bulged end of the sway bar link stud and use the hammer to drive it out of the lower control arm. After that, loosen the lower nut and unscrew the sway bar link.
  • Q: How to Install a Rear Sway Bar Link on Dodge Viper?
    A:
First, push the stud into the lower control arm hole with the sway bar link attached, use the sway bar link nut to hold the link in place and tighten it to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Following that, attach the opposite end stud into the sway bar hole, add the link nut after the stud and tighten it to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Once the brake calipers are attached and torqued, slide on the wheel and tire, beginning with the nuts on the lowest hub. Continuously tighten each new nut to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), but avoid tightening the ones beneath already-attached tires.
