2000 Jeep Cherokee Engine Mount Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an Engine Mount on 2000 Jeep Cherokee?
A: The rear engine mount is a rubber bushing that allows the transmission to sit between the transmission extension housing and the rear support member. Before you take out the rear mount, disconnect the negative cable from your battery, then hoist and hold up the transmission. Remove all the nuts that connect the support cushion to the crossmember and get rid of the crossmember. When using a manual transmission, remove the cushion nuts as well as the cushion and take out the bracket bolts if you have to. If you're doing this procedure using an automatic transmission, loosen and remove the bolts connecting the support cushion and the transmission support bracket from the frame and if the vehicle is 2WD, release and remove the adapter bracket from the transmission and frame as well. Should the transmission support bracket be missing, fit it against the transmission and tighten its bolts to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.). Then, fix the cushion support onto the transmission support bracket and add the nuts, tightening them with 46 Nm (34 ft. lbs. torque). For automatic transmission, if the original bracket for the adapter was taken off, mount it back onto the transmission and screw the bolts on until you reach 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs. torque). After that, place the transmission support bracket and support cushion on the transmission, add the bolts and tighten them until you reach 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) torque. Second to last, lay the crossmember onto the studs on the cushion and install its nuts, tightening them to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.). Last, install the crossmember to the sill bolts and turn them to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Take the transmission support out, lower the car and attach the negative cable to the battery again.
