2001 Jeep Cherokee Engine Mount Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Engine Mount on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: Before servicing or repairing the rear engine mount, take out the negative battery cable and lift the vehicle so it supports the transmission. Take out the nuts juxtaposing the support cushion to the crossmember and then remove the crossmember. With a manual transmission, remove both cushion nuts and the cushion, then the transmission support bolts to separate the support bracket from the transmission. On automatic models, take out the bolts holding the cushion and support bracket in place, then remove the cushion and bracket from the transmission if the car has 4WD or from the adapter if the car is 2WD. In addition, on 2WD vehicles, unbolt the bracket that connects the transmission support adapter to the transmission. When installing on a manual transmission, connect the transmission support bracket to the transmission and tighten its bolts to 46 Nm (34 ft. lbs.) torque. After that, add the support cushion to the bracket using nuts tightened to 76 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) torque. Place the crossmember over the support cushion studs; secure it with stud nuts tightened to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.) and then fasten the crossmember-to-sill bolts to a torque of 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Remove the transmission support, lower the car and attach the black cable to the battery again. When using an automatic transmission, install the transmission support adapter bracket to the transmission on 2WD vehicles and use bolts welcomed to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) torque. After that, attach the transmission support bracket and support cushion to the adapter bracket or transmission, using 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) torque bolts. Afterwards, line up the crossmember on the support cushion studs, thread the stud nuts until they reach 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.) torque and then fasten the crossmember-to-sill bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs. torque). After that, take out the transmission support, bring the vehicle down and attach the negative cable to the battery again.
