2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Power Steering Pump on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To service the power steering pump, first take off the serpentine drive belt, afterward remove the pressure and return hoses and drain it. Remove the bolts holding the pump to the pump mounts inside the engine using the three holes in the pulley and loosen the one bolt holding the pump bracket. With the pump tilted downward, remove it from the engine and get the pulley off, too. To start installation, put the pulley back onto the pump and mount the pump onto the engine mounting bracket. After attaching the pump with the three bolts, fasten them to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) and then tighten the pump bracket bolt to 57 Nm (42 ft. lbs.). Attach the pressure line back to the pump and tighten its screw to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.), then work on the return hoses. After that, install the drive belt again, fill the power steering with fluid and perform the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation step.
