2000 Jeep Wrangler Air Duct Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix Air Ducts on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: You need to remove the instrument panel assembly from your vehicle to gain access to different air ducts. Unscrew the push-nuts at the top of the dash, remove them and then lift out the duct. To access the demister hoses, remove the glove box and knee blocker, disconnecting the battery negative cable first. After the hoses are found, pull them off the demister outlet and defrost/demist duct. Take out the instrument panel once more, unscrew the two screws connecting the floor duct to the heater-A/C housing, release the snap clip and gently slide the duct out. Once you have removed the instrument panel, get the five nuts out of the heater-A/C housing mounting studs, take off the floor duct, slowly pull the housing away from the plenum bracket, pull up on the housing to unsnap the fresh air duct and gently pull the collar straight down from the cowl plenum panel. For the panel ducts, remove the demister hoses, untwist the two screws that fix them and pull the ducts out from the instrument panel. For the panel outlet barrels, use a trim stick to gently pull them from the housing and push the newly-added barrels until they snap in place. Screw every screw to the calibrated torque. The duct screws should be at 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.), the bracket screw should be at 3.4 Nm (30 in. lbs.) and all dash panel nuts should be at 6.2 Nm (55 in. lbs.).
