How to Replace an Air Duct and Collar on Jeep Wrangler?

Turn off the air bag system by removing the negative cable from the battery, wait a couple of minutes and resume after the air bag capacitor has drained itself. Get rid of the instrument panel from your car. Then, unscrew the five nuts on the metal studs where the heater-A/C housing is held under the dash and if it's easier, adjust the battery position with the cables temporarily out of the way. Unscrew a single screw holding the heater-A/C housing to its bracket on the passenger compartment side of the panel, then remove the floor duct underneath it. Lightly push on the top of the housing to get it far enough up so you can pull the duct out of its top connectors. The collar on the side duct is held in place by light pressure, so lift it downward from the cowl panel. To install, lift the fresh air duct collar into the cowl plenum panel, snap it in and tighten the screw that holds the heater-A/C housing to the plenum bracket, using 3.4 Nm (30 in. lbs. of torque). Secure the dash panel mounting nuts to 6.2 Nm (55 in. lbs.), place the floor duct to the heater-A/C housing and then reinstall the instrument panel just before attaching the negative battery cable.

Lay the defroster duct (6) over the HVAC housing assembly (5) and tighten it with the four screws (2) to 1.2 Nm (10 in. lbs.). After that, set in the right and left demister ducts (1 and 3) and then place on the instrument panel cover and the instrument panel. Whenever the foam foam seal inside the HVAC case is damaged or not looking right, it needs to be replaced.
