2000 Jeep Wrangler Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Axle Shaft on a 216 RBI Axle on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: You have to lift the vehicles and support it on safety stands and move on to unscrewing the wheel and removing the brake drum carefully. Take out the retainer plate from the axle by unthreading the nuts at the axle flange. Remove the axle shaft with Slide Hammer 7420, Adapter 6790 and fitting lug nuts. Do not mount the axle shaft onto the tube nut with old bolts, since used torque nuts can become loose and cause danger. Line up the axle so that the flat part of the axle shaft retaining plate faces upward and then place it into the tube's opening at the end. Put the retaining bolts into the flange of the axle tube, moving them through the holes in the brake and axle shaft plates and add the nuts to secure everything to the tube. Wedge the nuts into the access hole in the axle flange so they reach 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Add the brake drum and the wheel and tire back, replace the gear lubricant as needed, lower the car and then drive it to see if the problem is solved.
