2000 Jeep Wrangler Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Starter Motor on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Begin by unplugging and disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery and next lift and hold up the vehicle securely. With one hand holding the starter motor up, use the other to take out the two screws joining the starter to the block. Lower the starter motor enough so that you can get at and remove the nut connecting the battery positive cable eyelet terminal to the starter solenoid B(+) terminal stud and also to make certain the starter motor is supported and doesn't dangle from the harness. Pull the cable positive fitting of the battery away from the starter solenoid's B(+) terminal stud and unplug the other solenoid terminal wire harness connector. Get rid of the shims and the starter motor during the process. First, set the starter motor next to the engine block and then connect the solenoid terminal wire harness connector. Put the positive cable eyelet terminal onto the stud of the starter solenoid B(+) terminal and tighten the nut to 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Set the starter motor and shims aside, gently insert the two mounting screws and then tighten them to 44.7 Nm (33 ft. lbs.). The last step is to drive the vehicle down and secure the battery's negative cable to the battery terminal as before. Shim thickness can be ordered at 0.381 mm which equals 0.015 in.
