2000 Jeep Wrangler Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Alternator on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The first thing to do for any alternator service or repair is to disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid any dangers to the electrical components. Release the generator drive belt, take out the pivot and the bolts/nuts, to expose the wire connectors. When possible, unsnap the plastic cover from the B+ terminal. Take off the screw holding the B+ output terminal in place at the rear of the generator and separate the lead. Once that is done, push on the connector tab and then unhook the generator. For installation, assemble the generator then plug the field wire connector into the generator at the rear once it is near the engine. Secure the B+ terminal to the generator mounting stud and tighten the nut on it to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Should the car come with a protective cover, place it over the B+ terminal. Fix the generator mounting fasteners and tighten both the generator mounting bolt to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) and the generator pivot bolt/nut to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). Don't push a belt over the pulley rim with a screwdriver to avoid ruining its synthetic material and route the accessory drive belt so that the water pump remains in the proper rotation. In the end, put on the drive belt on the alternator and reconnect the negative battery cable.
