2000 Jeep Wrangler Thermostat Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain Your Thermostat on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The first precaution when servicing is to make sure that you do not open the radiator draincock after filling the car with coolant. Drain the coolant in the radiator until it sits beneath the thermostat housing, collecting usable coolant into a clean bucket if it is not dirty. Work with tools made for service on constant tension hose clamps, example: the special 6094 and Snap-On (HPC-20) tools and always use safety glasses. Note that every tension clamp includes a number or letter stamped into the tongue and you should only use an OEM clamp with the same identifier. Take out the upper radiator hose and heater hose at the thermostat housing, disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring connector and eliminate the bolts of the thermostat housing, plus its housing, gasket and thermostat, throwing away the old gasket. Make sure the parts are clean, slide the new thermostat in place, with the pellet facing the engine and line the outer flange up with the mark on the flow sleeve. Insert the thermostat into the groove in the engine cylinder head, so the air bleed hole and arrow are pointing up and then attach the replacement gasket and thermostat housing. Screw the housing tight along its entire length and secure the thermostat so that housing cracks do not develop, applying 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) torque. Connect the hoses back to the opening of the thermostat housing and the electrical connector to the sensor for the coolant temperature. Check that the draincock is tightly sealed and add the right mixture of coolant to the cooling system until it is the proper level. Turn on the engine and examine the vehicle for leaks.
