2001 Chrysler Concorde Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2001 Chrysler Concorde?
A: You should start by lifting your vehicle on a frame contact jack stand or supporting it on jack stands when working on the rear parking brake cable. Take out the tension from the cables by loosening the park brake cable tensioner nut. Remove the left rear cable from the connector on the park brake cable tensioner and pull the right rear cable out of the connector that connects to the intermediate cable. Slide the retainer clip off the preferred rear park brake's cable from where it's fastened to the crossmember and lower the vehicle to a convenient height for inspecting the brakes. To start, undo the nut of the rear wheel and tire mounted next to where you want to service, then the brake caliper and rotor connected at the adapter. After that, remove the rear brake rotor from the rear hub/bearing assembly and then pull out the parking brake shoes from the disc brake adapter. Take the park brake actuator lever away from the park brake cable towards the front end, then use a screwdriver to compress the holdover tabs on the cable that secure it to the disc brake adapter. After compressing the retainer tabs, remove the cable from the disc and vehicle. Position the new rear parking brake cable so that the head goes upwards and nestles above the intermediate cable, with both cables resting together between the frame, crossmember and stabilizer bar. Press in the other side of the cable into the disc brake adapter, so the retainer tabs lock down properly. Connect the actuator lever of the park brake to the rear cable, behind the spring, before fitting in the parking brake shoes. Put the rear brake rotor back on the hub or bearing and clamp the brake caliper on the rotor and adapter with tightened guide pin bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs). Put the tire and wheel back on, lift the vehicle, drop in the rear park brake cable into the rear suspension mounting hole and secure it with a clip. The left rear cable goes to the park brake cable tensioner and the right rear cable is connected to the intermediate park brake cable. Once the repairs are done, adjust the parking brake shoes and the parking brake tensioner as well.
