2000 Chrysler Concorde Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2000 Chrysler Concorde?
A: It's important to raise the vehicle on a jack before attempting to service the rear parking brake cable. Unscrew the tensioner nut to take the pressure off of the cables. Take off the left rear cable from its connector at the park brake cable tensioner and remove the right rear cable from the connector at the intermediate cable. Remove the retainer clip fixing the chosen rear park brake cable to the crossmember and set the car low enough before we work on the brakes. Start by removing the wheel and tire on the side to be worked on, the rear caliper from the adapter and rotor and lastly the rear rotor from its hub/bearing assembly. Then, eliminate the park brake shoes from the disc brake adapter and the park brake actuator foot from the rear park brake cable. Take a screwdriver and push on the retainer tabs while you pull the rear park brake cable off the disc brake adapter. While installing, make the rear parking brake cable run above the intermediate one and pass between the frame, crossmember and stabilizer bar. Put the other end of the cable into the disc brake adapter and lock the retainer tabs. Drive the park brake actuator lever behind the spring, then slide the park brake shoes, rear disc brake rotor and brake caliper onto the rotor and adapter. Torque the caliper guide pin bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), set up the tire and wheel assembly and raise the car once more. Slip the rear park brake cable into the rear suspension crossmember mounting hole and clamp it in place with the new clip. Link up the left park brake cable with the tensioner and attach the right rear cable to the middle park brake cable. Afterwards, set the parking brake shoes before starting to adjust the parking brake tensioner.
