2001 Chrysler LHS Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Left Exhaust Manifold on 2001 Chrysler LHS?
A: You should start by disconnecting the negative cable from the remote jumper terminal and rise the vehicle on a hoist to service the left exhaust manifold. Eliminate the exhaust system and release the restricting bolt for the converter pipe support at the transaxle mount prior to lowing the vehicle. After that, take out the V-Band clamp from the exhaust manifold connector and don't reuse it. Disconnect the sensor bracket, pull the wiring harness apart and take the sensor out of position in the manifold. First take off the fastening bolts from the heat shield, then from the exhaust manifold to finish with removing the manifold and its gasket. Examine the exhaust manifolds for any sign of damage, inspect the gasket if it looks discolored or warped and check the cylinder head surface for distortion using both a straightedge and a thickness gauge. First, set the manifold and transparent gasket over the exhaust opening and fasten the bolts. Start at the central one and tighten them, working your way out to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.). Install the heat shields and tighten their bolts until they reach 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.), connect the oxygen sensor to the manifold and attach the electrical connector. Attach the electrical connector bracket to the brace, add a new V-Band clamp and tighten it so that 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.) of pressure is on the clamp. Lift the vehicle another time, install or tighten the bolts connecting the converter pipe support with the transaxle mount to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) and then put the exhaust back in place. When you're done, lower the car and attach the negative cable.
