2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Camshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Camshaft Seal on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing the camshaft oil seal, take the timing belt off. Before removing the center bolt, use Special Tool 6847 to keep the camshaft sprocket in place. After that, remove the rear timing belt cover and carefully use Special Tool C-4679-A to take out the camshaft seal without damaging the surface or bore. Clean the surfaces that go together and use 400 grit paper to polish them if you notice varnish, dirt or nicks. Slide each camshaft seal into a cylinder head using Special Tool MD-998306 until they are even with the surface of the head. Insert the rear timing belt cover and ensure you do not use an impact wrench to tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts. Secure both sprockets in place using Special Tool 6847 and then tighten the center bolt up to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). Make sure to set the timing belt into position in the last step.
