2001 Chrysler Town & Country Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: The negative battery cable should be unplugged as the first step to servicing the Camshaft Position Sensor. Lift the air box cover off and take out the inlet tube and after that disconnect the sensor's connection to the wiring harness. Take out the bolt that holds the sensor, swivel the sensor counterclockwise from the block and lift it up and out of the cover of the chain case, not tugging on the sensor wire as you lift. If the sensor is being replaced, take off the original spacer on the face, put on a new one and only then secure the sensor in position. If the O-ring is broken, replace it with a new one. Attach the paper spacer to the face and insert the new sensor's O-ring into its groove. Add a little engine oil to the O-ring and fit the sensor inside the chain case cover, then spin it into place. Push the sensor against the camshaft gear until contact is made, keep it there and lock it in place by tightening the bolt down to 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.) torque. Connect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor to the harness, replace the air box cover, reattach the inlet hose and lastly link the battery's negative cable.
