- Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot for Outer on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?A: Before working on the Constant Velocity Joint Boot, take out the half shaft assembly from the car. Get rid of the large clamp that holds the CV joint sealing boot inside the covering and the small one that holds the outer boot to the shaft. Take the sealing boot off the outer joint housing, let it drop onto the shaft and wipe any grease away to reveal the ring. Pull the clip between the ears of the CV joint and remove the outer CV joint assembly while the sealing boot is on top of the drive shaft. Examine and wash your vehicle's outer CV joint assembly and interconnecting joint; if you discover any unusually worn parts, the half shaft assembly has to be changed because its components cannot be repaired. First, slide the new small diameter seal boot retaining clamp onto the shaft and then place the replacement outer CV joint assembly sealing boot so it comes to rest on the boot clamp. Put the outer CV joint assembly on the interconnecting shaft, pushing it gently until the retaining ring is tucked in the groove so it is firmly placed. Half the grease from your service package goes into the outer CV joint assembly housing and the reminder goes into the sealing boot. Position the thin groove of the sealing boot along the shaft before snapping on the outer boot seal boot retaining clamp. After using crimping tool C-4975-A, remove the nut and close the bridge of the clamp tight; make certain that the seal is formed well and that there aren't any dents, stretches or shape changes. Place the outer CV joint sealing boot into its special groove on the outer CV joint housing and then fasten the sealing boot retaining clamp evenly. After inserting the cord into the metal clamp, squeeze the C-4975-A tool to shut the jaws fully. Then, accurately attach the half shaft assembly to the vehicle.
