2001 Chrysler Voyager Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Wheel Speed Sensor on a Front-Wheel-Drive on 2001 Chrysler Voyager?
A: To work on the rear wheel speed sensor in a front-wheel-drive car, elevate the vehicle and carefully separate the cable from the harness so you don't damage the connectors' pins; inspect all the connectors for earlier damage. Take out the grommet from the floor pan and pull apart the speed sensor cable connector. Be careful not to snap or pull the wrong way on the speed sensor cable as this causes damage to routing clips on the brake brake hose and you will need to replace the whole brake hose. Remove the speed sensor cable from its press-in routing clip, unbolt the metal routing clip and then remove the sensor cable from that clip as well. You should then release the rear (yellow) retaining clip under the wheel speed sensor head by pushing it upwards, lift the sensor off the hub and bearing by pushing up on it and remove the sensor by pulling it back. Be sure to direct the cabling attached to the wheel speed sensor correctly into the attachments; any contact with moving parts and excess cable can result in an open circuit. If the metal sensor retaining clip is not in its neutral position, install it from the bottom and press it right up until it clicks into place. Guide the wheel speed sensor head into the hub and bearing, put the index tab into the hole's notch and press it in until it snaps into the metal clip. Over the sensor head, insert the yellow clip with its tabs connecting on either side. Route the cable for the sensor under the leaf spring at the back of the axle, insert it into the routing clips on the rear brake hose flex and secure it tightening the metal mounting clip to 16 Nm (140 inch lbs.). Attach the wheel speed sensor cable to the vehicle wiring harness, ensuring it is secured and then install the grommet for the speed sensor cable into the floor pan. Finish by lowering the vehicle and test both the base and ABS braking systems on the road.
