2001 Chrysler Voyager Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service a Brake Caliper to Prevent Asbestos Exposure and Ensure Effective Cleaning on 2001 Chrysler Voyager?
A: Front disc brake caliper servicing should be done carefully as asbestos fibers may appear in any dust or dirt on the brake areas. To sand or grind brake linings, you must use equipment set up to capture dust and don't clean brake components with compressed air or by dry brushing. Rather, spray the brake parts with water, moisten a clean cloth with water and wipe them down, putting the old cloth and any substance with asbestos fibers in a sealed container labelled for asbestos disposal. To keep the brake caliper's inside passages clean, chase the fluid out with fresh brake fluid or use Mopar Non-Chlorinated Brake Parts Cleaner, as any fluid that contains mineral oil, gasoline, kerosene, alcohol, oil or transmission fluid might damage its rubber cups and seals. Check the disc brake caliper for brake fluid leaks near the boots and on the brakes' inboard side, punctures, hardness or damage to the piston dust boot and look for damage, dryness or hardness on the guide pin dust boots as well. When your caliper fails the inspection, tear it down and repair or replace the seals and dust boots.
