2001 Dodge Dakota Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Throttle Cable on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, go inside the vehicle and support the accelerator pedal, release the plastic cage clamp and lift out the throttle cable core wire at the upper part of the pedal arm. After that, take out the bottom wire from the pedal arm. Press both sides of the cable housing retainer at the dash panel to get the cable housing out of the dash and into the engine compartment. Take out the air tube at the top of the throttle body and then remove the cable ball socket at the throttle body linkage by unhooking it and snapping it toward the vehicle's back end. Squeeze at the sides of each cable housing clip above the mounting bracket to take the housing off, undo the clips on the valve cover retainer to free the cable on that side and pull the cable free from the vehicle. To install, slide the end of the cable housing into the bracket hole and press it in place. Link the ball socket to the throttle body linkage and fix the housing to the valve cover retainer. Add the remaining cable housing end to the dashboard opening until it snaps into its place. Place the small end of the wire cable through the hole in the pedal arm and put the plastic retainer on, wrapping one part of it around the index tab on the pedal. After that, operate the throttle and ensure it works correctly before placing the air tube onto the throttle body.
