- Q: How to Service and Repair the Right Exhaust Manifold on 2001 Dodge Intrepid?A: Disconnect the negative cable from the remote jumper terminal to start and then remove the air intake tube and air filter housing. After that, take out the bolt that connects the battery cable housing tube to the transmission housing, then remove the bolts for the EGR tube on the exhaust manifold and EGR valve, throwing out the gaskets. Disconnect the electrical connector, get rid of the exhaust manifold's oxygen sensor and then remove the manifold-to-catalytic-converter V-Band clamp, so you do not reuse it. Wiggle the exhaust manifold out after removing the attaching bolts, then remove the heat shields once you've dealt with their screws. To check for damage, look at the exhaust manifold, inspect the gasket and use a straightedge and thickness gauge on the mounting surface of the cylinder head. Install the exhaust manifold and gasket, tightening all the bolts from the middle out to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.) and then fit the heat shields and tighten their screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Put in a new V-Band clamp, tighten it to 10 Nm (100 inch lbs.), fit the oxygen sensor and reconnect the electrical cable. Put the EGR tube in place with new gaskets, securing the screws to 11 Nm or 95 inch lbs. and then fasten the bolt for the battery cable housing tube to the transmission housing at 101 Nm or 75 ft. lbs. After that, put the air intake tube and air filter housing back in place and secure the negative cable connection.
