2001 Dodge Intrepid Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Right Side Catalytic Converter on 2001 Dodge Intrepid?
A: The right side catalytic converter can only be serviced when the exhaust system has cooled, since it gets hot during use. Get started by lifting the car on a hoist and detach the exhaust system. After that, undo the right side entry pipe fastener and take off the right converter extension pipe from the bracket. Depress your car until its wheels touch the ground and then take out the air cleaner assembly along with its air inlet hose. Located on the right side of the engine near the rear, pull the Short Runner Valve (SRV) vacuum reservoir and control valve assembly from the 3.2/3.5L motor. Remove the downstream oxygen sensor connector and then remove the sensor from the converter pipe. Free the V-Band clamp at the exhaust manifold, as it's not meant to be reused. Unmount the car's converter from within the engine compartment. Lift a NEW V-Band clamp into position over the end of the exhaust manifold, but do not tighten the T-bolt at the moment. Secure the catalytic converter, opening and widening the V-Band clamp to bring the manifold outlet in contact if it is difficult. Put the converter extension pipe into place on the right side while the vehicle is still on the hoist; leave the clamp loose for now. With the car parked, verify that the body isn't too close to drive components, then attach clamps, but not fasten them by tightening yet. Apply downstream oxygen sensor and connect the electrical connector after setting the V-Band clamp to a torque of 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.). After that, install the Short Runner Valve (SRV) vacuum reservoir and control valve assembly for 3.2/3.5L engines before putting on the air cleaner assembly with the air inlet hose. Bring the vehicle up again and clamp the band on the extension pipe down to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Afterwards, add and tighten the nut to secure the extension pipe to the transaxle bracket at 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). After that, reconnect the exhaust system and take the vehicle lower to the ground.
