2001 Dodge Neon Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Alternator on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Before working on and repairing your alternator, remove the battery negative cable. Relax the jam nut and adjustment bolt, after that, lift and prop the vehicle. Tear off the accessory drive splash shield, remove the lower mounting bolt and take the generator drive belt off. Unlock the generator field circuit wiring connector by pushing the RED locking tab and follow by unscrewing the B+ terminal nut. After that, unscrew the upper and lower bolts and move the generator away from the pivot bracket. Then, remove the pivot bracket. Put the generator in place by going through the wheel well, fasten the lower pivot bracket, then tighten all the bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Screw the upper and lower retainers to the bolt heads just slightly, attach the generator field wiring connector by pressing the RED tab and put in the B+ terminal nut and wire. Place the newly purchased drive belt on the generator, drop the vehicle, tighten the belt according to tension and tighten the bolt and jam nut. Lift the vehicle once more to secure the lower mounting bolt at 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and place the splash shield back in place. Afterwards, put the car on the ground and reattach the battery cable.
