2001 Dodge Neon Starter Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Before handling the high output starter motor, unhook and isolate the battery's negative cable. Furthermore, disjoin the inlet hose from the intake manifold and change the position of the air cleaner box. Look for the starter, loosen the starter bolts and after that, take the starter assembly out. Turn the button to "Off" and take the solenoid connector out of the starter, leaving the lead to the alternator connected. Before fitting wires to the solenoid, wipe away any dirt or rust from the cable and wire terminals. Force the alternator output connector securely into the battery positive connector, snap the battery positive connector onto the starter and tighten the captive nut to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). For correct functioning of the charging and cranking systems, the alternator output terminal must be wired to the positive terminal on the starter solenoid battery. Fix the solenoid connector to the starter and make sure the latch is properly locked. Adjust the starter inside the transmission, connect the bottom bolt and tighten the screw until it's snug to the mounting plate. Attach the ground cable to the bolt that holds the upper starter mount and be sure the starter is aligned as you tighten the mounting bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) torque. After that, place the air cleaner box back in its original position and hook up the inlet hose on the intake manifold. End by connecting the negative battery cable again.
