2001 Dodge Neon Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Intake Manifold on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: First, remove the negative cable from the battery and next, get rid of the inlet air duct attached to the intake manifold and going to the throttle body. Vent the fuel system pressure first and use shop towels to cover the fuel hose in case of gasoline dropping during drainage. Turn off the fuel supply to the engine, then release the quick connect connector at the fuel line. After that, pull the fuel injector cover off of the retaining pins. Unscrew the screws holding the fuel rail assembly and then place a cover on the injector holes to keep them clean. Detach both the brake booster and PCV hoses from underneath the intake manifold and take off the MAP and knock sensor electrical wires. Remove the electrical connection from the starter, take off the intake manifold bracket and remove the bolts and screws inside, tossing away all the fasteners. Check the manifold for any breaks or distortions and make sure the O-rings at the joining surface are all there and are not torn. Prior to installing the pump, wash the sealing areas, substitute all O-rings and use fresh fasteners and washers. Placed the intake manifold over the cylinder head and attach by tightening all its bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) in the proper order and then tighten the bolts of the lower support bracket to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.). Always remember to pull out the nut that covers the fuel injector holes, carefully clean those holes and attach the rail to the cylinders. Tighten the rail screws to a torque value of 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). After you fitted the PCV and brake booster, inspect the quick connect fittings, add a drop or two of clean oil to the fuel inlet tube and secure the fuel hose to the fuel rail. Put the fuel injector cover in place, connect the wiring from the MAP sensor, join the knock sensor connector and attach the other wiring around the starter. Fasten the inlet air duct to the intake manifold and throttle body tightly with a clamp set to 3 Nm and after that, put the negative cable back to the battery terminal. When you have finished, use the DRB scan tool to initiate the ASD Fuel System Test which keeps the Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay energized for 7 minutes or until the ignition switch is turned off or the Stop All Test is started.
