2002 Dodge Neon Starter Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Starter Motor on 2002 Dodge Neon?
A: You should unplug the battery's negative cable, disconnect it entirely and lift the vehicle onto a hoist. Loosen and take out the starter bolts and assembly, after which you can disconnect the solenoid connector from the assembly by removing the latch. Take out the starter's positive battery terminal, but make sure the alternator output lead is still connected. First, you should wipe any rust or dirt off the cable and wire terminals, before fitting the wiring to the solenoid. Put the positive battery cable onto the starter, fix the alternator output connector into the positive cable that's connected to the battery, then tighten the captive nut to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Proper charging and cranking depend on a connection from the alternator to the positive battery terminal of the starter solenoid. Attach the solenoid connector to the starter so that the latch fits in place. Set the starter starter into the transmission housing, begin tightening the bottom mounting bolt and screw it in until it is snug. Connect the ground cable to the mounting bolt at the highest part of the starter, verify it is properly aligned and then secure all mounting bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) torque. After that, set the vehicle on the ground and hook the negative battery terminal.
