  • Q: How to Service the Front Brake Disc on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500?
    A: Before servicing the front brake disc, first lift the car and keep it supported and then take out the wheel and tire. After that, separate the caliper from the steering knuckle and remove the caliper adapter assembly, keeping careful watch that the brake hose is not helping hold the caliper adapter up. Take out the disc from the hub/bearing wheel studs. If your 1500/2500 has an all-wheel ABS system and is being installed with a tone wheel, make sure the teeth on the hub/bearing are in good condition; if the teeth are worn, you will need to change the hub/bearing assembly as a replacement tone wheel is not available alone. Attach the disc to the hub/bearing wheel studs, then thread the caliper adapter assembly on and tighten the adapter bolts to either 176 Nm (130 ft. lbs.) on LD 1500 vehicles or 285 Nm (210 ft. lbs.) on HD 2500 cars. After that, mount the tires and wheel assembly, lower the car and stop several times to make sure the pedal is firm before moving the vehicle.
