2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Neutral Safety Switch on a 46RE on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: When servicing the Neutral Safety Switch on a 46RE, raise the vehicle and put a pan under the switch. Cut the power to the switch wires and lift the switch from its place in the case. When installing, shift the car into Park and Neutral and make sure the switch operating lever fingers are set to be in the middle of the switch opening. Attach a switch seal and put the switch in place, tightening it to a torque of 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) To check the switch works correctly, attach a 12V test lamp, rewire the switch and carefully lower the car. Top up the level of transmission fluid once more.
