2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: To work on the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, you should begin by removing the negative cable from the battery. After that, unplug the fan and fan drive and take off the accessory drive belt. Remove the vibration damper pulley and then take out the vibration damper bolt and washer at the end of the crankshaft. Put a bar and screw from Puller Tool Set C-3688 in place, inserting two bolts with washers into the puller and the vibration damper, then use this setup to pull the damper away from the crankshaft. When placing the vibration damper, put it on the crankshaft and press it with the installing tool from Puller Tool Set C-3688. Tighten the crankshaft bolt and washer to 244 Nm (180 ft. lbs.) torque and then do the same for the pulley bolts at 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Reinstall the serpentine belt, viscous fan drive, and fan, followed by the fan shroud, and finally reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
