2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to properly remove and install an oil filter on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Each engine comes with a top-quality, disposable full flow oil filter and Mopar or a similar oil filter is advisable. Place a drain pan below the oil filter and turn it using an appropriate wrench to unscrew the filter. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise so it comes away from the cylinder block oil filter boss. If the filter becomes loose from the adapter nipple, tilt the filter's gasket side up to control any oil spill before you take it off. Wipe the surface where the old gasket sat with a towel, tom make sure it is free of dirt and oil. Add a bit of engine oil or chassis grease to the oil filter gasket and put the filter onto the adapter nipple. As soon as the filter rests on the gasket's surface, turn the filter by hand one complete rotation to seal, without going beyond it. Add oil for the last step.
