2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Throttle Cable on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before starting to service or repair, check that the inner throat of the cable is left straight and intact. In the car, keep the accelerator pedal up and take out the retainer and wire from the upper end of the pedal arm. After that, take out the air cleaner housing. Carefully pull the ends of the plastic cable housing retainer tabs at the dash panel and then remove the cable housing from the dash area. Slip the throttle body cable's end back past the clip after removing it from the routing/holddown clip near the radiator fan shroud. Gently press on the release tab of the cable housing at the throttle body mounting bracket with a small screwdriver to ensure you don't break it. To remove the cable, bring the housing up straight out of the bracket. For setup, turn the throttle cam all the way, attach the cable end to the lever pin, link the cable to the throttle body bracket and join it to the fan shroud clip. Place the extra cable housing end inside the opening in the dash panel, making sure both plastic pinch tabs click the housing into place. Afterward, push down again on the accelerator pedal and feed in the throttle cable wire and plastic retainer into the pedestal, making sure the plastic retainer's index slot is aligned with the index tab on the pedal arm.
