First, remove both of the negative battery cables at each battery before working on the throttle control cable. If the sensor for the accelerator pedal is intalled near the engine, reach into the vehicle with one hand and lift up the pedal, remove the cable retainer from the end of the cable with the other hand and pull the core wire cable out from the upper end of the pedal arm. After that, take off the clip and then the wire from the pedal arm and pull the cable housing from the dash panel into under the hood. Uncover the cable by detaching the cover which is fastened by 4 clips, 4 push tabs and 2 Phillips screws. Open the cable connecter socket from the throttle lever ball by using 2 screwdrivers and be careful not to break the throttle lever arm. If there's a battery tray-mounted accelerator pedal position sensor, then there's a cable connecting the pedal to the APPS through the throttle control but no separate mechanical cable to the throttle body. Proceed as before by taking off the battery cables, pressing the accelerator and retrieving the retainer and cable core from the throttle assembly. True the threaded bolt and then, using the small screwdriver to release the cable housing from the APPS bracket in the engine compartment. If it's attached to the engine, push the cable through the bracket's socket from below, ensuring the pinch tabs are secured and attach the cable end socket to the throttle ball with larger pliers. Feed the rest of the cable housing end up through the dash panel hole, hold the pedal up and fix the throttle wire core and retainer into the pedal arm above. Connect back the negative cable on the battery and push the gas pedal to ensure there is no binding and only then fire up the engine, after which cover the cable/lever. If the sensor is not on the engine, snap the accelerator cable onto the APPS, feed the housing through the rubber opening in the dash, add the clip to the dash to secure the cable, insert the core wire into the top of the pedal arm and finally push the cable retainer into the opening at the base of the pedal arm until it snaps. Finally, test to see if the accelerator pedal is binding and, if you notice any issue, clear any APPS Diagnostic Trouble Codes from the
Engine Control Module using the Scan Tool.
