2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: Service and repair of the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley should start by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery. Take out the fan and fan drive and then pull off the accessory drive belt. With the damper removed, take off the vibration dampler pulley from around the crankshaft. Use the bar and screw included in tool C-3688, inserting two bolts and washers into the puller tool and vibration damper to pull the damper off the crankshaft. Set the vibration damper onto the middle of the crankshaft and use the tool included in the tool kit to correctly fix it there. Turn the crankshaft bolt clockwise until it reaches 244 Nm (180 ft. lbs.) torque. Following that, attach the crankshaft pulley and tighten its bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Up next, install the serpentine belt, viscous fan drive and fan, after which you put on the fan shroud. In the last step, plug the negative cable back into the battery.
