2001 Dodge Ram 3500 A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose in an HVAC System for Suction Hose on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: The first thing to do is secure the negative cable from the battery. Once that's done, recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Remove the wire harness connector from the a/c high pressure switch and free the suction line refrigerant line coupler at the accumulator, then install plugs or tape on all exposed refrigerant line fittings on the system. Loose the nut that attaches the block fitting to the stud on the condenser and then break the connection on the discharge line from the condenser. Afterward, secure plugs or tape over all open fittings for frozen lines. On models equipped with this engine, take away the nut on the refrigerant line support bracket's attachment to the stud on the compressor mounting bracket. Then, undo the bolt that holds the refrigerant line manifold to the compressor and insert small plugs or tape into all available fitting holes before uninstalling the suction and discharge assembly from the vehicle. When installing, remove the tape and plugs from all refrigerant lines and fasten the suction line refrigerant line coupler to the accumulator. Attach a fresh gasket, then fit the discharge line block to the fitting on the condenser inlet and tighten the mounting nut to 180 lb. ft. Calibrate the refrigerant hoses on the compressor and use a 22 Nm (200 in. lb.) torque in the bolt to attach them. On these vehicles, place the nut for the refrigerant line support bracket on the stud that is part of the compressor mount and tighten it to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Connect the wire harness plug to the a/c high pressure switch, place the battery negative cable back on, remove the refrigerant from the system and charge it up.
