2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Neutral Safety Switch on a 44RE on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Raise the vehicle and set a drain pan beneath the Neutral Safety Switch before proceeding with service. Take off the switch wires and pull the switch out of the case. During installation, go into PARK on the shift lever and check that the operating lever fingers are in the center of the opening in the case. Replace the switch's seal and apply torque of 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) when you secure and install it in the case. Try out the switch with a 12V test lamp, fix the new wires to the connectors in the switch and pull the car up off the ground. The level in the transmission fluid needs to be topped off.
